About EFTSkills

EFTSkills grew out of years spent in supervision rooms and therapy rooms, watching therapists have the same moment over and over: they understood Emotion Focused Therapy in theory, but froze when it came to knowing what to do, live, with a real client in front of them.

I'm Aaron Lerch, MSc — a clinical psychologist and ISEFT Level D Certified EFT Supervisor. EFTSkills is my attempt to close that gap between knowing the theory and knowing what to do next.

A bit about me

I've spent over 25 years in clinical work, training, and supervision. Along the way I became a Certified EFT Therapist and, more recently, a Level D Certified EFT Supervisor through the International Society for Emotion Focused Therapy (ISEFT).

These days, most of my time goes into mentoring other therapists — helping them build the kind of moment-to-moment clinical instincts no textbook can fully teach.

Why I built this

After years of supervising and training therapists, I kept running into the same thing:

People understand EFT theory well. What trips them up is knowing what to actually do, moment to moment, in the room.

EFTSkills exists to close that gap — not with more theory, but with something closer to a map for the emotional terrain you're already navigating with clients.

How I think about the work

A few things I keep coming back to, in both my clinical work and my teaching:

✓Process matters more than technique
✓Emotional depth doesn't have to mean overwhelm
✓Precision beats scripts
✓The client's pace and capacity come first

I think of experiential therapy as a craft — something you get better at through practice, honest reflection, and paying close attention to what's actually happening emotionally in the room.
